I have the Alaska myself, though it's not currently in use. I think chewing through bases is quite uncommon, so she'd probably be fine with a plastic base. My brother and I have had 7 hamsters, all kept in plastic based cages, and never had a hamster even try to chew through. So long as the cage is big enough and she has enough chew toys she will probably be fine. There are, if course, exceptions such as Leonard, but you say she's not a chewer so I'd give it a go.
