One of my boys has never used a wheel in his life. I have tried putting treats in it and all he does is go and sit and take the treat. I don't think he knows how. He would rather climb the tubes and bars in his cage. The others run for hours at nite, pausing to eat and bathe and drink. One wheel is getting squeaky time for a new one.
