The beauty of a playpen is that it allows the hamster to do what they want. A lot of the time, hamsters only run in balls because there's nothing else to do in there or they feel claustrophobic and are to an extent trying to find a way out. The fact Wasabi can relax in her playpen is a good thing and shows she is more happy in there. And, as CMB says, hamsters can take a while to get used to a play pen or free roaming. So long as she has a wheel in her cage, you know she can exercise at night. So, if she spends her playpen time pottering rather than frantically running, you don't need to worry. She will still be getting mental stimulation.
