Default Re: Pets at home sawdust, yes or no?

I'd have to agree with Vectis and Cypher, I've had more problems with substrates than my hamsters have and in the years I've been keeping hamsters, I've only ever had one hamster develop an issue with it. Many people over the years have used woodshavings for years without problems and I know many people who still use them in their hamsters cages because they have found that is what suits them and their hamsters best.

The last time I had a pack of the Pets at Home brand of shavings, I found that there was a few larger chunks of wood that I removed but in most cases you'd be checking the substrate as you're putting it in your hamster's cage anyway. The other brands that are pretty good is the Snowflake one (it's fairly cheap in Home Bargains) and the Smart Pet one which again is fairly cheap, depending on where you buy it from.
