I get that some hamsters might be "allergic" to shavings, but I think for the most they aren't. And if they were I would probably just switch to paper bedding. My old hamster was allergic to sand baths, though she really enjoyed it. Could of just had a bad batch though.
I don't see why a lot of hamsters could be allergic to the shavings, I think it's just as likely to be allergic to sand baths honestly.
