I wish that I could help with this, but I upload pictures directly from my cannon camera to my computer to my pinterest account. I also received a message similar to the one you got when I was trying to create an avatar here. Never could figure out how to resize the pic so I could use it as my personal avatar, but if I do find out anything about how to resize directly from an iPhone I will definitely share the info.
