By DJ I assume you are referring to the "Djungarian" hamster, and being that he is new, he may need more time in order to settle in. Biting can be a sign that they have not been tamed well or correctly. The taming process begins with adding tissue with your scent on it into the cage with your hamsters so they use it as nesting material and become used to you. Then you can start talking quietly by the cage or simply hang around it so that he becomes used to your presence. Then, once he's comfortable, begin to stroke him and then progress very slowly to handling. Only a few inches off the ground at a time. I'd try starting again with the taming process and see how it goes. Hope they warm up to you soon
