I've used aspen with my hams before, and I can tell you that it's not a good substrate with ones that burrow. It can have little sharp bits that can get stuck in their eye when they're digging around, which is why I'm strict with using it only on hams that don't like burrowing. As said above definitely switch to a softer bedding, see what that does, and if there's no improvement, or if it worsens, she should be taken to the vet to clear it up.
