Default Re: Hamster keeps going into hibernation

Hello All,

Ok, so we went on another adventure today to see the hamster specialist today. He was said that any hamsters can go into hibernation as its just nature kicking in. He said she should be between 20-25 degrees at all times. He said that because she was cold once every time she is on the cusp of 20 degrees she will do this behaviour as she is now susceptible towards it.
He said the more it happens the more it will impact her organs and she will begin to lose weight as it takes lots of energy for her to come out of it.
He suggested her eats lots of rice and potatoes and raisons and almonds, high carb and fast sugar so she has instant energy. He said due to their short lifespan it is best to feed them right up and they live lovely little lives! im sure someone will write back about diabetes of which we are aware of but currently warm food and carbs is the way we are going.
Anyway, I am going to sew her a hood for her cage today to keep her even more toasty and we will see where we are in a few days.... x
