Default from bar to bin

I've a Mickey XL cage and while it might sound promising it is in fact not. The measurements are about right, 80 x 50 x 38 cm. Right? Wrong!

Spaceous, in paper, but in theory it is just so much space wasted (mind. blown). Let's not even mention the "platform" or accessories included... *shudders*
The roof is too damn high my heart flutters every time Latte decide to play monkey (it doesn't happen often nowadays, bless!)!
Let's even forget using hammocks or other roof accessories unless I lower them immensely!

Basically it's a two story floor cage sold and marketed as one.

What I want to do is build my own bin cage but I've no experience with those.
I know I'm able to grab some really spaceous ones that are wider with less depth.

Would anyone actually recommend going from bar to bin?
