Burgess is a bit hit and miss I suppose.They have wonderful dwarf hamster food,disappointing quality in comparison Syrian food,and some really interesting treats.
You could certainly add more variety to any food by offering treats,but this isn't compensating for a lack of variety from any food.
Kaytee food in general is something I'd always recommend staying far away from.The quality is nowhere near being worth it,and it tends to be very questionable at best
A tip I have is that Petco does sell Higgins food but it is cheaper at Petsupermarket.This isn't widely known,but unless you get a good sale at Petco it is definitely worth it if you have Petsupermarket nearby!
