I have one of these and they are good. Try it out under the shelf as cypher suggested but if you think that is too far away from the cage then you could do this - have the cage raised up on books or similar to the height you want and slip the heat pad under the cage but not touching it. You could have a towel or other cover on the surface under the heat pad. You can adjust the height so that the base of the cage does not get too warm.
