It sounds as if he has just had a bad fright. Keep him very calm and quiet now and monitor him for signs of any tummy upset and if this happens then see the vet.
I would ensure in future though that the cat has no access to him whatsoever which may involve you locking the door to the room he is in as cats can be very sneaky about door opening! When handling, the kitty should not be allowed in the room. With cats being predators they can cause a lot of stress to hamsters.
