Planning again for future DIY's

One of which will involve the need to use the below wood materials:

Basswood Sheet 0.22 X 15.24 Cm | Hobbycraft
Hardwood Dowel 3/8 X 36 Inches | Hobbycraft

Are these safe? I'm not sure how to go about supplying wood pieces and ensuring they will be ok if chewed?
