Hello Whitney and welcome,
I've only been here a few days myself but everyone seems really friendly.
I also found posting a new thread a little confusing as it is not immediately obvious, here are the steps you should take to start a new thread:
1.) From the sites main page click forums on the left hand side.
2.) Pick the category you want to post in, I presume it's "Introductions" initially.
3.) On the right hand side under the page numbers click on "Forum tools" and select the option that says "Post a new thread".
