Hi there and welcome to Hamster Central.

It's usually considered safer if hamsters travel in carriers and many exhibitors do this when transporting hamsters to shows.

Your hamster will need some form of moisture although it's not usually adviseable to use a water bottle as it will drip during the journey making everything soggy. A good idea is to use a piece of moist vegetable - cucumber would be ideal and will provide adequate moisture for an hour's journey if you give them a fair sized slice.
