We do need a photo but if you got your Russian from a pet shop then he'll be a Russian hybrid, they can look more like one species than the other but are still hybrids, pet shops don't sell pure bred species & if he came from a breeder surely they would know?
Look forward to seeing his colour though when you can post a photo.
