I think it depends on the size of the ball.They are definitely way too expensive for the rat sized balls which are considered okay for Syrians,but even then the slits are dangerous in any ball because of possible safety concerns.Free range is definitely preferred above all though,and is probably the most cost effective option since it is free and all you need to do is just hamster proof a certain area of your home!
