Just remember all Mixed breeds can be just as sickly and some even more, as some things like dysplasia and heart and liver issues can be found in both breeds used to create that mixed breed. In the states the Doodle mutts have almost taken over the top spot for Hip dysplasia, and they also have genetic illnesses in them from BOTH breeds.

The bottom line comes down to Breeding even mixed breed mutts from only health certified parents. (Random selection here) Take Labradors crossed to Poodles. The parents should IMHO be tested for every known genetic health issue, and have a passing grade before being bred.

When I was raising and showing Cardigan Welsh Corgi dogs I spent over $2,000.00 on EACH dog I was going to use to ID if they had or carried for any of the geneticly known health issues. By the Parent club making it mandatory for a Conformation Champion to also obtain a Performance title before being eligible to win Breed Club issued Certificates of Merit, or versatility awards. It has forced the breeders to up the health in the breed as well as breed better quality dogs because most dogs who have back issues, or hip issues will not be able to do any serious performance work.

Slowly I have seen the old ways come back to dog breeding where the individual breed clubs(Parent Clubs) are taking the reins in hand and forcing the registry Clubs(AKC, UKC, FIC etc to change to the breed club's demands.

However it still has absolutely no effect on how those Mutt breeders are producing genetically ill dogs, and not a word is said about all those mixed breed pups who are so crippled they have to be PTS at a very young age, or not one word is documented on how many mixed breed dogs die of heart, liver, or any other health issue does it?

Also there should be something done with the Judges who select and obviously poor quality dog for the win. GSD used to be my breed raised before CWC, but when the winning dogs began to look like they were squatting to wee when doing their flying trot around the ring I turned to breeding working GSD and to hoots with any Conformation champions bred from my Kennel. I refused to change my breeding stock just to follow the awful looking squatting dogs that were being placed at the top all because of the notority of the handler and new judges were worse at this then old ones as they wanted the world to see THEY had the honors of judging and then placing "Grand Champion Joe Blow Goes" as Best in Show. Ack
