They need about 1/3 land 2/3 water. I'm not sure if they all carry salmonella. Hopefully it is fully grown. Some species grow really large.

Turtles can bite hard and are not handled much, more of a pet to watch.

Have a look online for turtle tanks/cages. There are some plastic ones that have a deep end for swimming, a slope leading out of the water and a flat area for basking.
