Default Re: Bin cages - water bottle ideas!

This is what I do with mine...

You will need:

– Stainless Steel or Brass Wire
– Good Quality Wire Cutters
– Pliers
– Elastic Band
– Water Bottle
– Drill
- Plastikote

Instructions:

– The first thing you’ll need to do is work out how high you want to position the spout of your pet’s water bottle. You’ll need to take the amount of substrate into account when deciding where to place the bottle as well as making sure that it’s not positioned too high so that the lid won’t fit. Ours is positioned 120mm from the base of the cage. Make a mark at this point.

– Drill a hole at the point where you made the mark for the spout. When drilling your hole, make sure you’re using a bit that is big enough to create the hole for the spout to fit through.

– The next thing that you’re going to need to do is create the hook that you will push through from the inside of the cage to hang your bottle from. Cut a 105mm piece of the stainless steel wire with your wire cutters.

– Using the pliers you’ll need to bend a 90 degree 25mm piece at either end of the wire.

– Now using a smaller drill bit, drill two smaller holes above your spout hole, making sure that they are level with each other.

– Poke your wire through the smaller holes from the inside of your bin and then using your pliers again, bend a small section of the wire at each end in an upwards direction.

– Attach an elastic band to the hooks and make sure that your water bottle fits.

– Give your wire a clean and coat with Plastikote if you prefer and you’re ready to hang your water bottle on its new hook.

All measurements are approximate and may need to be tailored to suit the bin and water bottle that you are using. We use Classic Colourtone Small water bottles with our cages
