Thumbs up Ferplast Maxi Duna

Ferplast Maxi Duna

Dimensions - 99cm x 51cm x 36cm

Suitable for all species of hamsters

Price - approx. £65 (Amazon)

ADVANTAGES

- Very large and spacious home
- Tall enough to accommodate a 12'' wheel
- Roof bars do not need meshing
- Deep base allows plenty of substrate
- Ideal for bar chewers
- Good ventilation
- Large roof door
- Allows for an excellent view of your hamster
- An excellent blank canvas, you can set-up inside however your hamster likes!

DISADVANTAGES

- Very heavy, particularly when filled with substrate and accessories
- No bars to climb
- Clips between the base and top half are stiff
- Roof door very hard to clip into place
- Textured base makes it difficult to clean
- Very tall, making hanging toys such as sputniks etc hard to use safely
- No platforms or levels

There are two holes for bottle spouts. I have attached our bottle using adhesive velcro - one side stuck to the bottle, and the other side stuck to the outside of the cage. This hold the bottle in place firmly and makes it very easy to remove and reattach when changing the water.

I have blocked up the bottle spout hole that we do not use, as I did not want Rupert to be able to use this as a point to start chewing. I have used a wooden chew daisy, again attached with adhesive velcro.

The base has a raised grid-like texture. This makes thorough clean-outs quite difficult as it constantly seems to rip and bobble the kitchen towel when it is being wiped out!

The roof opening secures with two plastic slide-tabs, one at either end. These feel sturdy and are smooth to operate.

The large size provides plenty of space for toys, digging boxes, tunnels, nest houses etc.

All in all, we love this cage and I give it a 9/10. My Syrian Hamster has lived in it for nearly a month now and he is a happy, active and curious little boy who loves his adventures in the cage!
