You could try putting cardboard from toilet rolls between the bars that he chews. This worked for me also as mine didn't like pulling the cardboard.
Mine only chewed the bars in a certain area of their cages!
He can't see me where I'm sat due to having a wooden cage and it's only the front that has windows which doesn't face out due to my awkward room. Could I do this with the light and turn the light off when he starts to chew and that'll show him I'm not interested?
