Nico might just be taking a while to settle in to his holiday cage!
Did you use some of his bedding and floor covering from his old cage? This would have his smell on it.
Is the set up similar to his permanent home?

What do you mean by fluffy hideout bed?
Wool bedding isn't safe for hamsters because they store in their pouches.
Try and keep the dog away from Nico for the rest of his stay, he might've felt scared and being in his temporary cage has him unsettled.
