I think it's really interesting that you pointed out that a varied diet is helpful, because it most certainly is for any animal. Most cases of "ingredient sickness" in dogs for example (to corn, starches, etc) comes from feeding them the same diet day after day. A varied diet allows the immune system to exercise, if you will. A bored immune system can turn on the body, as rising rates of diseases like multiple sclerosis seem to bear out in human beings.
